SYNOPSIS

In the late 1990s, Crunk emerged from Atlanta with high-energy beats and chant-style vocals. It offered an alternative to the dominance of East Coast and West Coast hip-hop, bringing a fresh rebellious energy, sense of community, and pure celebration.

Crunk defined the sound of the South in the late '90s and early 2000s, giving voice to experiences and expressions that had historically been underrepresented in hip-hop. It helped solidify Atlanta’s position as a major force in the music industry.

The movement later exploded with hits like "Get Low" and "Yeah!" (Usher featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris). Songs like "Turn Down for What" crossed over to pop audiences, solidifying Crunk’s widespread appeal.
